Three steps to Happiness and Joy

We often look for happiness however it seems hard to find, nearly impossible! We struggle to please our own desires and egos. Everyday, we keep ourselves busy in finding ways to make ourselves happy. Sounds difficult but we perform it every single day because we can never have happiness unless we find it. It’s hard to believe but we want to achieve or gain something that we can’t even find unless we want to. A natural joyful state of mind keeps a person not only healthy but also full of life.

But is it normal to stay happy all the time? of course not. Happiness and sadness is a natural state of mind. A human being possesses both the feelings. However, a sad state of mind does not allow us to function well. It keeps us trapped in the feelings that makes us sick and helpless. Whereas, a happy state of mind helps us in moving on.

Why do we need to be happy? We desire so much from one life that sometimes it becomes difficult for our emotions to stay calm. Our action runs wild, our mind acts funny and most of all we find ourselves deficient. That is when staying happy and positive matters. A joyous state of mind helps us in focusing on things that makes us feel real or absolute.

Although, these three steps may not be the lone or unique ways to stay happy, but there is definitely no harm in practicing. Let’s find out:

Pursuit of Joy

Don’t Obsess over everything and anything:

Obsessing over something doesn’t mean the toys you wanted as a kid, or the place you wanted to visit so bad, or the new phone that you want for your next Christmas. We human beings are so much caught up in our jobs that we forget where to pause. We obsess over everything and anything. Luxury, Status and Power to state a few. However, we don’t focus on things that matter the most, health, emotional and mental wellbeing and most importantly inner peace. When we shift our focus from things we want to things we have, our mind becomes stress free. It stops obsessing over gaining things.

Mostly we desire to gain things (material and non-material) and in order to do so we exhaust ourselves. Furthermore, our compulsiveness over gaining unnecessary things caters nothing in the way of leading a happy and healthy life. For Example, A lady working overtime to achieve the highest level of her organization but missing out her yearly holidays and everyday family time. In another example, A young man focusing too much on career has no one to celebrate at the best time of his life. The point is a person can be happy and have everything at the same time but he/she has to focus on achieving and not obsessing over it. We need a happy soul and a mind full of positive thought in order to function well in our everyday life. In fact, positivity is the key to happiness.

Moreover, to stay happy we need dreams and hopes to fulfil not egos and obsessions to satisfy.

Love Yourself:

This may sound cliché but loving and caring for yourself matters. In fact it is very important in order to pursuit a happy life. Care for yourself, laugh more, enjoy small moments of your life and learn to appreciate yourself for being who you are. Take time and listen to your mind, body and soul more often. Be more confident and comfortable in everything you do. Always keep a positive approach towards life and be optimistic. No matter how busy, lazy or crazy life is, loving yourself keeps us motivated and happy. Moreover, it makes us kind and warm towards others.

Travel more

Explore and Experience more:

Keep all the excuses to yourself and start making your mind up, because getting out of your comfort zone, i.e. home, can lead you to happiness. It may not be a vacation in an exotic location or a iconic destination. However, it must be a place you have never been. Travelling makes people happy and it also helps us discover many things. Of course there are constrains but that should not be an excuse. Going out and witnessing sunset or sunrise does not require a fortune. Taking your Sunday breakfast at a local corner will not burn a hole in your pocket. Spending an evening with your friends at the bank of that nearby river food joint will not make you spend your life savings. However, it will definitely give you a sense of joy and fulfilment. Joy of having people around, happiness of finding small moments to rejoice.

I have no doubt that many of you must be finding these tips to be so obvious and that you already know. However, in a modern-day life cycle we often compromise our real happiness with materialistic lifestyle. We often keep our excuses ready to avoid our inner calling. We were so desperate to gain things that we had to wait for a Pandemic to make us realize, how important it is to go outside and breath the fresh air. Lastly, nothing matters if you don’t stay happy. Happiness is everything that makes a persons life worth living.
