Salt Water Café: Mumbai

Mumbai; I have been recently shifted to this city from Kolkata. Now foodies can imagine my hopes from the city in terms of food. I loved Kolkata food, although, I was only a fishetarian. I cooked many traditional cuisines and even partially mastered some. Meanwhile, In Mumbai things have just started. For me the whole “Mumbai ka Khana” experience is going to be fun, because I already admire the famous “Ghugni wala pani poori”. Anyway, today let me introduce you to a café that I suddenly discovered and now it is already favorite.

Salt Water Café: A review

Salt water cafe, Bandra west
The cafe

My visit to this café was sudden and I am glad we went. Our experience was amazing and let me tell you why? To be honest I prefer enquiring before going to any place to eat. It may not be a luxury dinning but it has to have three basic factors correct. These are, Food, Ambiance and hospitality. Now a days, it has become very important to check the hygiene as well. The cafe offers a wide range of food preferences that fall under the category of European and Continental cuisine.

Location of the cafe

The cafe is located at 87 Chapple road near Mount Carmel Church, Bandra west- Mumbai-400050. It is a few steps from the Lilavati Hospital and very easy to locate.

Ambiance

The ambiance is minimal and smart with a modern look. It was done with neutral colors that complemented the wooden furnishings. Seating is absolutely comfortable and adequate. What I really loved about the ambiance is the use of light. Big windows made the whole space look bright and the warm tone of the furnishings made it look cozy. It was just amazing to be honest. I loved the big plants and delicate planters and small pictures and décor. Overall, The ambiance was attractive and soothing. It is a place where I would like to hang out with my old pal, go for a brunch with a colleague and be on a coffee date with my bae. No hustle, no loud music and no rush. A place you can eat, talk, laugh and repeat.

Hospitality

One of the major things that concerns me, is service? Salt Water Cafe is a very modern and smart looking cafe with of great service. The hospitality of the waiters was amazing. They knew what they are serving and had a very polite respond to our queries. They explain every food item and takes care of your preferences a lot. I would also like to point out the hygiene factor here. Everything was well cleaned and sanitized and we were provided with good quality sanitizers at the table too. The food took a little time to reach to our table but it was worth it. In terms of hospitality we felt well taken care and well attended by the guys.

Food

Now coming to the most important aspect, food. Let us talk about that. The restaurant serves European and continental cuisine, it also offers vegetarian, vegan and gluten Free options. On top of that, It is available for Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch, Dinner and After hours as well. Sounds fun, Isn’t it? Further, It also offers take away, delivery, Valet parking, reservation and alcoholic beverages.

The first thing we noticed is the menu is contactless. You can order and pay online while sitting at the table, or you can order and pay the traditional way. We did the former way as it is this way everywhere now a days.

They have a very interesting and extensive menu. There is separate menu for breakfast, food and beverages. The menu was clearly segregated into Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and timings. Which is according to me was very helpful. There is variety of choices starting from snacks, appetizers, desserts to main course etc. The menu primarily served continental cuisine including, Burgers, Sandwiches, Pasta and Grilled food items and so on. The best part of the menu is the Salad and appetizers options.

What I Loved

However, the star of my meal was the dessert. I seriously admire those who serve good dessert options and this place was doing exactly that. I ordered Banoffee pie with brandy roasted bananas. trust me guys, I was taken back to my teenage days. My big sister used to make amazing Banoffee pies and I am hard to impress. This one did the job and I loved it. Perfect crust and filling and that slice of caramelized banana made my day. Among the other things we ordered was the grilled chicken and tomato, olive and garlic spaghetti. The portions were sufficient for two and plating was beautifully done. The flavor and taste was amazing.

The sweet treat, Banoffee Pie.

To be honest, I loved this place in every sense. Although, I paid a little more than usual. Moreover, the standard maintained in terms of food and hygiene is impressive. Salt water cafe definitely deserves a 4.5 star. I will surely visit this place again.

Do pay a visit while in Mumbai. Its a must recommendation.
