Perfect Weekend Getaway to Lonavala from Mumbai (with kids)

Lonavala Calling

Living in Mumbai can get overwhelming, especially with kids and daily routine. Sometimes all we need is a break from the fast life and a quick escape that doesn’t require brainstorming.

That’s exactly what our trip to Lonavala felt like- simple, refreshing, and just what we needed.

How To Reach

Distance: 80 km from Mumbai

Travel time: 1.5-2 hours maximum.

Best option: Drive (most convenient with kids or else you can travel through vista dome train)

Pro Tips

  • a tip, start early to avoid traffic
  • pack snacks for kids as the traffic might get crowded
  • avoid holidays or weekends if possible

Where we stayed

We opted for a very budget hotel, as we were there for only one night and also joined by friends. However, if you prefer comfort, good food and a little pampering I would suggest Radisson blue . This property is extremely beautiful and covers every aspect of a comfortable stay. Trust me with kids it’s a must to stay at a good and friendly place.

If the budget permits and you have little grownups staying in Della resorts is a memory to keep. with lots of activities to engage in and indulging in absolutely amazing cuisines, Della resort has it all.

Food Options

Food options are endless, from local Dhaba’s to fancy restaurants everything is available. We are a family of four and we love exploring food in our tours, so we had fancy meals as well as Malvani thali too. But we also kept it simple sometimes, Daal-Rice-sabji easy and comforting.

Why It’s great With Kids

It’s a great destination for traveling with kids, as it takes less time for travelling. Has lot of open spaces at different locations to run around. Most importantly, it’s a relaxed getaway with no need to plan too much.

Tiger Point

Amazing Valley view and rolling hills with wildflowers, Cool breeze and cloudy (kids love it). Best during early morning or sunset. The pictures do not do justice.

Bhushi Dam

Fun spot for kids, however, has to be careful if its full during rainy season. Water rocks and the flowing water is not less than an adventure. Weekends are too crowded and during heavy rains it should be avoided.

Waterfalls

Lonavala has this charm of small waterfalls all along the way. It’s a sight to behold when these falls run from the mountain in monsoon and touch the ground making everyone merry.

Thoughts

The pictures definitely justify why this place is called the jewel of Shayadri. This wasn’t a “perfect” trip- and that’s exactly why it was special. No pressure, no packed itinerary- just simple moments with family. And honestly, that is what we all need.
